Januik Red Mountain cabernet sauvignon

The 2013 Januik Cabernet Sauvignon from Red Mountain, Washington is a big, lush, complex wine that is drinking incredibly well right now.

The wine possesses a dark purple color, and subtle dark fruit and pepper aromas on the nose.

It is on the palate however where the wine comes alive. Blueberries and dark fruit are followed by a nutty creamy toasty oak finish sprinkled with soft peppered tannins.

I highly recommend this wine, and Cab fans will find this $40 gem not only a treat, but also a bargain!

Two Hands Lily’s Garden

The years have been very kind.

The 2004 Two Hands Lily’s Garden Shiraz, from McLaren Vale Australia, has evolved nicely over the past 10+ years.

In its youth the wine had opulent and concentrated blackberry, cherry and spice flavors that lingered endlessly on the palate.

Today it is smooth and elegant, finding a happy compromise between its fresh juicy acids and graceful tannins.  Berry and soft earthy mushroom aromas are noticed on the nose, while cinnamon spice, berries and musty leather create a complex assortment of flavors on the finish.

The wine retailed for $50 on release and current vintages are priced at $65.

Mt Brave Merlot

Don’t let the word Merlot on the label fool you, This is one Badass Wine!

The 2012 Mt. Brave Merlot is chock full of mountain fruit from Mt. Vedeer, which produces tiny berries with the type of concentrated and complex flavors that one would expect to find in a Napa Cab.

This is a well structured, full body, ruby color wine.  It is loaded with blackberry, cassis and mocha flavors, that are nicely balanced with juicy acids and well rounded tannins on its long finish.

I really enjoyed this bottle and found it well worth its $65 price tag.

Round Pond Kith & Kiln

 Great everyday Napa Cab!

The 2015 Round Pond Kith & Kin Napa Valley Cabernet is a well balanced full bodied wine with lush rounded tannins.

Juicy plum and blackberry flavors explode on the palate before giving way to nuts and toasted oak on the long finish.

One would be hard pressed to find a better Napa Valley Cab at or near this sub $25 price point.
